I know all about feeling overwhelmed when it comes to creating a daily action plan. I used to hyperventilate just thinking about my daily action plan. Each day I had the best of intentions but would find a million other things to do.
When I dig deep into why I was avoiding creating my daily action plan I discovered a few truths about myself. I discovered my avoidance was rooted in a fear of failure. See I was never able to complete the daily action plans I had set up for myself. They all used to be a hodgepodge of activity that never led me anywhere meaningful.
Don’t get me wrong I had a plan but it always changed to fit whatever fire I was asked to put out next. Living this way was exhausting and a blow to my self esteem each day. I had to find a way to feel more empowered and confident in creating my daily action plan. Feeling overwhelmed about my schedule was keeping me for creating one that supported me.
What I discovered were five ways I could take my control back.
Remember:
Not having a plan for your day is like getting on a plane flying without a flight plan. Heaven only knows where you’ll end up.
5 Ways to Stop Feeling Overwhelmed
Be clear what you want – Get clear about what goal you’re working on that day. Know what you want to accomplish and create a definite plan to get there. Being clear about what you want eliminates overwhelm. Being clear helps you stay focused on what matters to you.
Be clear about how you want your day to feel – Get clear about how you want to feel at the end of the day. Knowing how you want to feel will save you from feeling overwhelmed because you won’t say yes to anything.
Be willing to say no – Be willing to say no, even if it’s a really cool project or outing. Always take the energetic load into account before saying yes to any project. Your energy is more valuable than your time.
Be flexible – Be willing to pivot and change direction if needed. Being flexible helps you eliminate feeling overwhelmed because you’re not stuck on the “how” you are focused on the flow.
Be willing to ask for help – You don’t have to do it all yourself. Being a boss means that you know how to outsource and delegate things that are keeping you from your major goal. Asking for help eliminates feeling overwhelmed because you feel supported. Asking for help and accepting it isn’t a weakness it’s a strength.
